Natural Remedies to Cleanse Your Lungs

IMPORTANT: If you are having trouble breathing or if you are feeling any kind of discomfort in your lungs you should consult with your physician immediately to discard any potential illness or serious health problems.

Mullein Tea

Mullein is a common household plant that can be used to treat respiratory ailments. The leaves and flowers of the mullein, when dried or steeped in hot water make an effective treatment for asthma, bronchitis, cough, and many more pulmonary diseases.

How To Prepare It:

Ingredients:
  • 2 Teaspoons of mullein leaves
  • 1 Cup of water
  • 1 Teaspoon of dried spearmint – (Optional)
  • 1-2 Teaspoons of honey – (Optional)
Instructions:
  • Boil the water and add the mullein leaves.
  • Add the dried spearmint to a separate tea ball.
  • Steep for 15 minutes.
  • (Optional) Add honey to sweeten the tea.

Eucalyptus Tea

Eucalyptus is a natural remedy for chest infections that relaxes and expands the lungs, relieving congestion.

The world’s most popular air freshener may be a safe and effective way to help you breathe easier, with just half of one tablespoon per cup! However, be advised, pregnant women or people who have liver problems should not consume eucalyptus to treat their respiratory ailments; inhaling its steam, however, will work wonders for them.

How To Prepare It:

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of dried eucalyptus leaves
  • 1 Cup of water
  • 1-2 Teaspoons of honey – (Optional)
Instructions:
  • Boil the water and pour it over the eucalyptus leaves, cover, and let it steep for 8-10 minutes.
  • Add honey to sweeten the tea (optional).
  • You can drink this tea up to 3 times a day

While these are two of my favorite lung cleansing teas, there is one lifesaver remedy I consume whenever I feel my throat scratching, it works wonders!

Lung Detox Home Remedy

This is an old but tried-and-tested cure for sticky mucus in both children and adults. I don’t have a name for it but it is a combination of honey, flaxseed, lemon juice, and mustard seed.

I got this almost magic recipe twelve years ago from one of my friends who works in a pharmacy.

I still remember the day well because my daughter, who was very young at the time, was having a hard time after getting sick with the flu.

Her nose had been clogged for a couple of days, she was coughing a lot, and the syrup the doctor had prescribed was not helping her.

I bought the ingredients, prepared it, and after a few minutes of giving my little girl this homemade medicine, her throat was feeling better and she started expelling the mucus. The next day my daughter was feeling much better given the mucus had been expelled the night before.

How To Prepare It:

Ingredients (for adults):
  • 500 (g) of Meadow Honey
  • 1 Large Lemon
  • 3 Tablespoons of flaxseed
  • 1 Tablespoon of white mustard seed
Ingredients (for children over 3 years):
  • 500(g) of Acacia – or any kind of bright honey
  • 1 Large Lemon
  • 2 Tablespoons of flaxseed
  • 1 Teaspoon of white mustard seed
Instructions:
  • Grind both, the flaxseed and the white mustard seed, into powder. Drain the juice of one larger lemon (or two small ones), and add the honey.
  • Stir well to slightly dilute the honey.
  • In the thinned honey add the minced spices and blend well for the honey to mix with all of the ingredients.
Usage:
  • The recommended amount for children is 3×1 teaspoons per day and 3×1 tablespoons for adults.
  • Because it has lemon juice, the mixture must be kept in the fridge.

Lung Cleanse for Smokers

This may sound obvious but it is worth noting. If you are a smoker, then the first step to clean your lungs is to stop smoking. It is time to quit! Smoking not only pollutes the lungs with tar and other carcinogens but also inhibits the body’s ability to cleanse and heal itself.

No matter how many natural remedies you use, if you are constantly polluting your lungs with toxic chemicals they will never be healthy and clean. There are many great resources out there on how to quit smoking, while you may not get a fresh start after years of inhaling toxic smoke, this is the best place to begin to give your respiratory system a break.

When it comes to natural remedies there’s an extensive list of products specifically created to treat this problem all around the internet.

But we’ve found one of the best products is Lung Cleanse by the brand Biobreath Natural, a herbal supplement made of natural ingredients like herbs and spices which support respiratory health by getting rid of deposited waste and environmental toxins.

This natural supplement will help you to keep your lungs clean and remove environmental toxins inside your airways all year round so you have no problems breathing.

Lung Cleansing Foods

There are many foods that aid in the cleanse and detoxifying process of the lungs.

Foods with a high amount of antioxidants will not only get rid of harmful free radicals which wreak havoc on our bodies by causing cell damage, but they will also negate mucus and phlegm production.

Raw fruits and vegetables including berries and other citrics have a high amount of antioxidants and vitamin C which has been proven to reduce cough and wheeze in smokers having high oxidant stress.

Foods that are high in vitamin D like mushrooms, fish oil, and fortified dairy products can help to prevent moderate and severe symptoms of respiratory infections

Another amazing way to get rid of mucus from the body is Organic Sea Moss, one of the world’s most nutrient-dense superfoods.

Harvested from seawater, this herb can be used to get rid of mucus accumulating in your body. As a plus, it is full of energy-boosting minerals that will keep you going through any task at hand.

Sea Moss is a very rich source of clean, alkalizing minerals like Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium and has 92 out of the 102 minerals your body needs.

The one I recommend is from the brand Earthbal, you can check them out by clicking here.

Afterthoughts:

When healthy, your body’s ability to clean the lungs can not be compared to anything else, however, you can help it recover after you have been ill with the flu or any other respiratory infection by taking the right supplements to aid your diet.

As long as you do not willingly harm your lungs any further by smoking, you can cleanse and heal them over time with the right diet and supplements.

Foods rich in antioxidants and mineral-charged foods like sea moss will also help your lungs’ ability to detoxify and cleanse.
